Big "R" and Smokin' Joe's Hospice Benefit
Dear Friends of Big "R" & Smokin' Joe's Hospice,

In 1997, Roy, my husband of 52 years, passed away.

Thanks to my family and Hospice care, Roy finished his days with dignity, free of suffering, at peace. Most importantly, he died at home in a circle of love, with his family around him.

I don't need to tell you what Hospice means. You know. But if I wouldn’t have had family to help me, Roy would have had to go into a nursing home, the one thing we feared the most. Because we don’t have a local Hospice House that I could have afforded to pay for.

An affordable Hospice House can't be built or survive without your help. That's the plain, unvarnished truth. The kinds of hospice house that you find around the area are too expensive for most people, and Medicare fees and other insurer reimbursements just won't pay for it. And private duty nurses are as much as $300 a day!

That's why I'm writing, to ask that you give a tax-deductible gift today -- as much as you can afford - to help Big “R” & Smokin’ Joe’s Hospice Benefit “Building the Dream” campaign to help us build an affordable Hospice House in our community.

Your gift goes to work, helping other families cope successfully with the suffering, confusion, doubts and fears that surround a loved one's dying. Will I be able to care for him at home? What if I can’t afford a private duty nurse?

Every gift you give is appreciated.

If you believe in Hospice House as much as I do, please follow your heart and give with as much generosity as you can manage.  I hope you'll give at least $100 . . . for this special reason: Gifts of $100 or more are "In memory of..." gifts.  When you give an "In memory of..." gift, both your name and the name of your loved one will be listed in our house, and you’ll be featured and thanked in our annual donor report. (Of course, you can choose to remain anonymous if you prefer.)

I still miss Roy so much. I think of him all the time. I remember our wedding day, as if it were yesterday. You know, when you're saying your wedding vows and come to the end where you pledge "Until death do us part," you really don't think it will ever come true.  But it does. For all us, in some way.  Loved ones get sick, and suddenly you don't know what to do to keep them out of a nursing home.

That's when Big “R” and Smokin’ Joe’s Hospice Benefit, Building the Dream, matters most. Please give today.

With my sincere thanks and appreciation,

Betty Phillips
